ADI Elections

Hi

I am happy to announce my support for Dr Richard Brookshaw who is standing for North West Representative in the ADI elections.
Richard has worked the length and breadth of the country in recent years promoting implant dentistry through his work and through his teaching with CADE.

I include his brief manifesto below:

Richard Brookshaw

Richard BrookshawI qualified as a dentist in 1996 from the University of Dundee and in 1999 I gained a Masters degree in Oral Surgery from the University of Sheffield. In 2001 I completed Sheffield University's pioneering 18 month Implant Programme. Over the last 10 years I have continued my education both in the UK and abroad. In 2009 I was awarded Highest Honours from the UCLA 1- year Implant Master program and a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Dip Imp Dent RCS Ed). I continually promote the use of dental implants nationally and internationally through a series of lectures and mentoring programmes including performing as keynote speaker at Clinical Innovations, London 2008, lecturing on Nobel Biocare's World Tours and Nobel Biocare's Symposium, 2011. I'm the Director and Senior Surgeon at Same Day Smiles Ltd, a national network of dental implant clinics focussing particularly on All-on-4. I also offer implantology services and mentoring to a number of practices throughout the UK. I would like to share my passion for implant dentistry with the ADI. I believe I can promote ADI on a local and national level. I will strive to attract high-level speakers for local study clubs through my extensive personal network of contacts. Having been involved in training and mentoring a great many of the ADI members in the area, I will be aim to precisely deliver what you are looking for in the study clubs and to represent you accurately on the ADI committee. I believe in the fundamentals of the ADI and the advancement of education in implant dentistry. I will endeavour to promote these fundamentals through my involvement with the ADI and through my daily work routine. It would be a true honour to be able to serve the North West.

Implant Restorative Courses

Hi all,

Had a great meeting today with Nobel Biocare.

Exciting plans ahead for study clubs, the new Aesthetic Alliance (announced at the symposium) and for new implant restorative courses.

We discussed the need for all practitioners to have a working knowledge of implant dentistry whether it be from a restorative or a maintenance perspective. Dental implants are more common place than ever and we all need to know what to look for and how to troubleshoot and fix common problems.

We should all be offering implants as an alternative to dentures and fixed bridgework, thereby giving the patient informed consent of the treatments available.

To this end I am seeking practitioners looking to add simple implant restorative techniques to their repertoire. This can be new graduates who may have had limited exposure to implant dentistry or more seasoned dentists who would like to demystify implants. The course will include aspects such as simple screening and treatment planning to help refer suitable cases; single tooth and simple bridgework; denture attachments. This is not set in stone and can be adapted to delegate needs and wants.

There are plenty of year long surgical courses out there but few focusing on just the restorative aspect.

The courses are set to start early in the new year but I would love to hear from any early interest or any suggestions on how we can make this a very user friendly course.

Until next time

Andy
